D. Javier Thompson

Data, Assessment, and Policy Specialist

D. Javier Thompson (They/Them) joined the Office of Equity in January of 2022 as the inaugural Data, Assessment, and Policy Specialist. A social worker by training, they held research, clinical, and administrative roles focused on launching new initiatives in nonprofit, healthcare, and education organizations before joining the Office.

Javier oversees four major bodies of work for the Office of Equity. First, they lead end-to-end development and execution of all aspects of the annual strategic equity planning and reporting process used by over 40 state agencies. Utilizing the combined technology, communications, analytics, and education infrastructure Javier built, an expanding number of state agencies identify, resource, and execute mission-critical projects to ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for staff and constituents. Second, Javier manages the office’s legislative and policy initiatives focused on data infrastructure, privacy, and protection. Through close collaboration with legal, policy, and technology experts across the state, this body of work aims to embed a constituent-focused approach to agencies’ data initiatives. Next, they manage the office’s analytics, reporting, and technology capacity. The Office’s evolving portfolio of work integrates an increasingly complex set of communications, data collection, analytics, and strategy needs. In response, Javier ensures the office has access to the needed technology and training. Lastly, they manage the office’s data and information advising for state government partners as well as related special projects.

Javier holds an AM in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago, MA in Refugee Care from the University of Essex.
